Aplace of fashion

We cornered our good friend Kristian Rajnai, one of the brains behind the retail concept Aplace at the PUB department store in Stockholm, and demanded some straight answers.

Hej Kristian,

As a true rolemodel of good taste, we find it only fair that you should share your wisdom with the rest of the world. Besides, it´s also rumoured that your feet enjoy the weight of a gram shoe. Tell us more...

Q: Firstly tell us about this Aplace place and how it came to be?

A: We started out by creating a fashion magazine and doing random events during Stockholm Fashion Week. Aplace just naturally followed in the wake of all this; a new platform that gave us the opportunity to showcase and sell the brands that we truly admire.

-----------------

Q: Give us a hint on your favorite location in Stockholm

Långholmen!

-----------------

Q: So what of the new AW09 collection? Of course we´d sponsor you with a pair so take your time and pick a true favorite!

I´d have to say the 271g Black canvas, very nice indeed. Love the shape and restrained aesthetic that they carry off so well.

-----------------

Thanks for sharing Kristian, take care.

/Alexis & Anna

sthlm - gbg - sthlm

A long day of stress followed by a delicious dinner at rolf´s kök made the hour rather late and my chances of beating the darkness back to my hideout on the insland were slim. Fortunately a good friend is the type that is always there for you and so Björn took me under his wing and laid me to rest on his sofa pillows on the floor, once again... I brought with me pair of unigue goodyear welted calf skin derby´s from gram for him (actually the only ones in existence) and it seemed a fair deal.

The next morning I knew I had to make a snap decision; head off to Gothenburg as planned and booked, but without a change of clothes or even a toothbrush stroke across my teeth, or postpone the meeting with Velour and opt for the more civilized approach of actually showing up 1 day later in fresh clothes and at leat somewhat prepared with notebook in hand... An hour later I boarded the X2000 train bound for Gothenburg, "never put off that which you can do today", the words of my mother echoed in my head...

X2000

As I swerved and veered my way down towards Gothenburg, cradled in the gentle swinging motion of the X2 cabin I started reading the pocket book I´d picked up at the station. Låt den rätte komma in, or let the right one enter (not right as in right and left, but as in correct), I had wanted to read it for some time but never gotten around to it, a vampire story set against the dismal backdrop of the concrete suburbs west of Stockholm. It´s now almost finished, amazing book, please read.

While on the train my good friend Annika Berger from Skyward suddenly called me,

SKYWARD

which was odd indeed since I was on my way to Gothenburg, and she lives there... Had someone tipped her off..? Apprently it was all some immensly fateful coincidence and I rebooked my meeting to have lunch and catch up. She gave me indian food and finished me off with a chocolate powder coated cappo at some random café on Linnégatan.

For some reason all the girls in Gothenburg, or at least around Linnégatan and tredje, fjärde and whateverelse långgatan all look extremely laid back and gorgeous in their washed blue attire. Actually a lot like this girl from our Kleerup party the other week

GOTHENBURG LOOK

Time was up, and my coffee finished. Annika counted the crossing streets and headed off back the way we´d come, we turned in Tredje långgatan and she stopped half way down the street and pointed across it at a small sign on the brick wall: Velour

I was 1 minute early for my meeting. Hugged Annika goodbye, thanked her for taking so good care of me and slipped inside the heavy metal door to their office...

magic

gram heads out to Vegas once again with a pocket full of quarters.

Only this time I´m staying right where I am, leaving the arduous task of selling to the ones who actually know what they´re doing.

"Never let a designer sell his own shoes"

quote of the day.

If you happen to be in Vegas between the 1st and the 3rd of September, be sure to drop by our booth at Magic and give Erik and Anders a pat on the back from me.

Thanks for letting the designer stay in his country cottage doing what he does best, instead of making the poor guy wear all those heavy VIP bracelets around his wrist while juggling free drinks and a bundle of sweaty business cards.

LV is not for me.

Random Googling can sometimes bring about the most amazing discoveries.

This gets my vote for "best recycling concept of dead insects".

I want one, but only if it ticks as well...

work station

If you ever took the time to wonder where a person that designs shoes for a living might reside, then your curiosity has now been satisfied.

Although temporary, this is, for the moment, my home. On a small island 45km outside of central Stockholm called Adelsö.

The small cottage in the picture is my "friggebod" where I rest my head after a long day of whatever was stacked on my desk. Small? yes, ridiculously quaint? most certainly, but all in all I can´t really complain, depending on whether you like leafy trees and the sound of silence or not...

On a more on-topic note I can now confirm that our boat has arrived and gramstore will once again be loaded with our best collection ever, just hold out a few days longer...

Take care!

gram interview on Limited Hype

Founded in Stockholm by Alexis Holm and Anna Stenvi, GRAM Footwear offers a unique take on modern, casual footwear. Paying great attention to every detail, the brand is oriented around the concept of weight; with each shoe being named after its weight in grams. Simplistic and elegant, Alexis and Anna have managed to draw inspiration from their Scandinavian background to create classically timeless footwear, with luxurious materials and in limited numbers. We caught up with them in Sweden to talk about GRAM, design, and take a look at the upcoming Spring/Summer 2010 lineup.

LH: First off Alexis, how did you and Anna meet?

AH: It all started back in 2005. We worked at the same company at the time, I thought she was gorgeous, bought her a drink, and she agreed. A few months later we were both tiring from lack of creativity at work and we started discussing alternatives.
